About Peace Generation

First moment I know about Peace as a study by joining Peace Camp for Student on January 2005. I know this event by listening to the radio in the night in my little boarding house in Yogyakarta. Peace Camp!! It sounded interesting. Something made me nervous was deadline of registration, because it would be closed on tomorrow. So, without listening to anything else in the radio, I prepared immediately everything which should be submitted in the applications. Well, through long competitions and many steps of selection, I passed and became one of the participants.

5 days involved as participant in the event gave me much knowledge about peace. We got valuable experiences how peace influenced and pushed world to be better, conflict reconciliations, peace method, cultural understanding, interpersonal communication skill, and heart approach to build good relations with each other. That time was my unmemorable experience to know Peace Generation as an organizer of the event. And now, I became a part of it.

After involved 2 years in Peace Generation we held many activities concerning peace. We held International Peace Camp for Student 2007 on January 2007 in Yogyakarta that was our media to transfer and train participant about peace approach to solve conflict and problem. We also held peace campaign on Annual International Peace Day, Peace Handicrafts Competition, and Talk show about Peace.

When earthquake happened in Yogyakarta last year we volunteer helping victims. We held social activity to reduce their suffering by cooperating with Center for Security and Peace Studies of Gadjah Mada University. Such as “Children Trauma Healing” that entertained children by playing game, singing songs, outbound, etc. We also kept in touch with earthquake victims by joining them lived in the refugees’ camp for three months, holding incidental school for students, opened psychological consultation home, etc.

Now, Peace Generation actively campaign peace and hold social activity by door to door, school to school, campus to campus, and one event to another event. We often invited by other institutions to present about peace value. Such as Medical Faculty of Gadjah Mada University, Senior High School 3 Yogyakarta, American Friend Service Committee, etc.

Join Peace Generation makes me easy to apply communications studies that I got in campus. Communications theories such as Interpersonal communication, public speaking, group communications, organizational communication, public relations, journalistic, press, sociology of communication, and social communication give me more ability how we should face, socialize, and get interactions with people in the society.
